solesakuma: (Pride & Prejudice)
So I caved in - to RL friends, RP friends and, fuck, even my anonmeme of choice - and saw X-Men: First Class.

I'm not surprised in the least that I ship Charles/Erik, given that Magneto/Xavier has been one of my background ships forever (like Holmes/Watson or Athos/D'Artagnan).I was surprised that I actually enjoyed the movie. I liked it! For real!

There's not much to say about, besides 'I was kinda hoping for a kiss'. Because it was so framed in romantic tropes that it sorta annoyed me when it didn't go all the way even if I should know better.

Also, our only casualty is the black guy? Really? And the poor woman turns evil.

+ So now I want recs! Come on, flist, be awesome. :)

+ Randomly, I realized something about my ships. Now, while I do enjoy the occasional fix-it AU, there are some ships that I mainly enjoy for the trainwreck factor. Like, usually, in my choice of canons and fic to read I'm the fluffiest bunny that has ever fluffied. I like my ships healthy! I like my ships with a guaranteed Happily Ever After!

But there are some ships, like Doctor/Master or Remus/Sirius or Dumbledore/Grindelwald, that I enjoy for the impossibility of it all. If I'm going to be shipping something I think doesn't stand a chance, I ship like that. Totally in vain. It's prettier that way.

solesakuma: Nino with an amusing expression (Nino is amused)
+ We are now in Abrao, the biggest town in the island - which isn't much, still. But I really like it here and it's pretty empty and quiet.

We've been eating tons of fish. TONS. I'm happy. XD

I am totally going to write Ilye Br/Arg when I get back :P

+ The trip has been eventful from the start. We lost some jackets, a battery charger - which means NO PICTURES - and so on.

+ Got up to date with you, guys, but I don't have the time to comment. :) You've been moving and getting refunds and waiting for college to start and fighting with essays and stuff.

For the ones that have been a little bit down, CHEER UP! and HUUUGS.

+ I see many people have loved TOKIO's new PV. I think we can all agree Mabo's entrance was epic. And the thing is totally random and Toma is having the time of his life.

+ Oooh, reveals for ficgames and justfriends are close! Awesome

+ And that's all.

... Well, not all!

the that's my favorite! meme
solesakuma: Nino with an amusing expression (Nino is amused)

+ Yes, I signed up for JE Hols. I have a masochistic streak a mile wide.

+ TOKIO's latest PV: best thing ever. LOL TOMA.

Top five Latinamerican Writers, with one caveat - I don't read much Latinamerican literature:

1. Silvina Ocampo: codename Fierce Bitch. I love her! She's weird and her stories can be deeply cruel and upsetting, but... her weirdness appeals a lot to me, specially since it's based on the most boring, normal things ever - birthdays parties going awfully wrong, dresses eating people and beloved pets dying. If you ever find any of her books, BUY THEM. She's way less known than she deserves.

2. Jorge Luis Borges; yes, he was a bastard but we share obsessions. Few writers write so clearly and yet so prettily.

And his worlds are my favourite worlds. They're completely unreal and kinda antiseptic but hey, that's why I love him. He writes pretty puzzles. I like those.

3. María Elena Walsh: Best children's writer ever? Best children's writer ever. She's EXTREMELY well-known in Argentina, because besides her books, there are songs - tons of songs. Like the one about a travelling turtle and of course, the one in which a classic children nursery is turned epically bleak by turning the main character into a widow. Or The Castles, which starts like this: 'The castles are now all alone, no princess, no knight. Alone beside a river, dressed in moss and silence'. DEAR LORD.

Leaving aside her occasional detours into bleakness, her books are fun and whimsical.

4. Horacio Quiroga: he wrote 'Tales of the Jungle', a great children book about flamingos wearing snakes as socks and little does getting stung in the eye. He tended to be a little on the gory, melodramatic side but he did it well.

Unlike Ocampo or Borges, his language is sparse and direct.

5. Mario Benedetti: his tales about medium class people leading bittersweet lives and everyday tragedies are understated and sometimes cliched, but they're awesome.
No opinion on his poetry.

Two memes!

+ Well, no, not really. It's also a terrible desire to run away just this moment. I feel like I'm living a flashback, like I'm supposed to be out of here but I'm stuck.

Oh, Wanderlust, sometimes you suck.

+ today I went to 'study' to my Japanese teacher's home. Daaamn, so much food! SO MUCH FOOD.

+ Sadly, it reminded me I lost the chance to apply for this year's scholarship because I was in the US.

+ Classes begin on Monday! Argentine and Latin American Literature - which means 20th Century, which means I know nothing about it! Also Critical Theory.

+ I'm going to Brazil for a week. I don't know why I complain sometimes.

+ I've almost kept up with [ profile] je_justfriends! I already got my fic. I quite loved it, really. It's very understated and nothing really happens, but I loved it!

[ profile] je_ficgames! I haven't voted because there's too much fic. TOO MUCH FIC.

Some recs justfriends - from what I could read :( -:

i. The Great Johnny's Relay (How Hina Got His Tupperware Back): you know that silly dengoban conversation about a Tupperware? Well, this fic is about that. Everybody shows up, ICly enough. Should reread it.
ii. La La La Boomerang Show: Arashi and TOKIO work at Nakai's paper company. Pranks ensue. As silly as it sounds.

Any rec, people who are keeping up with them?

Which means that now there's Arashi/Kame gang-bang fic. I guess my evil strategy of going kinkier work.

+ And that's it.

+ Also: I'm apparently slated to play Dick Grayson at Mansión. RPGs, I hates you.
solesakuma: (Kawabonga!)
The Doctor Who finale, I mean.

It was awesome, I loved it, it pinged me deep into my soul and FUCK IT, I LURVE IT.

The plot doesn't make sense, but it was entertaining enough that I just... didn't realize that.
solesakuma: Nino with an amusing expression (Nino is amused)
+ I'm having trouble with college. Like... this year, I'm doing many things outside of it and they're all so fulfilling and fun. They're interesting and I like them. Running JE events or the Japanese Book Club or the volunteering are just better and more rewarding.

Because now I know what I want to do with my life and what I need to do to get there and... suddenly college is tiny and I still like my major. It's still my calling but, dear Lord, is it ever going to end?

And even if, as my Aunt said, that's good, I need to rock college if I want the scholarships once I finish. And then my inherent Akanishi-ness hits and dude, why should I give my 120% when a 50% is good enough, specially since I don't even like it that much?

+ My inherent Akanishi-ness is hitting all aspects of my life right now, though. Because I have a social life, which I didn't before.

You see, not only have my friends suddenly rediscovered night life, but the Japanese foreign exchange students like going out and since we're sorta their 'helpers', well, it is our duty!

They're five Japanese college students - two girls and three boys -. I'm Misato's 'tutor' and dude, do I adore the girl. She's amazing. All genki, kinda crazy and genki. She also likes me and... well, let's just say social anxiety is an old friend of mine.

She gave me a diary so we can write on it, you know? Like on Marmalade Boy?

We played pool on Saturday and we taught them how to shake their booties. Amazing night out, really-

On Monday we played pool again and even if my newest crush told me my BFF is 'fucking hot'. I still had a great time. - Plus I have boobs and my BFF doesn't, which believe it or not was the advice most of my friends gave me... yes, even the BFF in question -. 'Just give him a boobish hug and that's it!'.

And my BFF throws a party at my house on Saturday. And then it's karaoke day! And then Arashi FC meeting! And then AKANISHI'S BIRTHDAY! WOOHOO.

So, basically, college looks so boring and sad.

+ And I have discipline issues, always had. I like putting things off. Like the gazillion of fics I need to write. And study for finals. And... DAMN MYSELF.

+ I've fallen so behind on Who.

+ But tomorrow is a new day.

- I passed my Literary Theory I final! With an 8 (out of 10). I'm quite happy with it. I even managed to remember something about post-estructuralism

And I'm actually studying for college and for my language classes.

- The J-music convention I'm planning is going smoothly. We have 15 vendors, several bands have offered to play even if this time we can't do it, there's interest, people are talking about it.

And we have our very first YouTube 'commercial':

Translation! )

- We started our Japanese Literature Book Club! It went along awesomely. We were just nine people, but it went well. I coordinate it along two other students and our plan was to do introductions and then Rashomon, by Akutagawa.
For the introductions, each of us picked some images and talked about how those images related to Japan. And so many things came up! Even the concept of amae or the Taisho era. It was really great.
Vaguest spoilers for this week Doctor Who )

- I also planned non-existant doramas. Which are coming in the next post.

- Oh, I love Going, dislike Fall Down. And yes, I like KUNTT better.

- JE Remix sign ups start next week!

solesakuma: Nino with an amusing expression (Nino is amused)
Hey, JE fandom people, the Remix is asking you questions. Again.
And our new mod got a Colbert icon. Just because we could.

And also about JE fandom (and RPS), there was a cool discussion about what constitutes canon in RPF and I wanted to know if I missed the mark, in your humble opinions. And to ask you what do you think is canon. Do rumours count? Do we even have a canon?

Still in the JE area, OMG, I'M SO SCARED. Me and my friends are making what we thought was going to be a tiny J-music event - like a con, but much smaller and shorter -. We might be too successful, but since the point is to get money in order to throw a Akanishi themed party and that means we need all the alcohol we can get...
And then people might not get our humour, but really. That'd mean they're boring.
Real life! )

Usagi drop )

Ooku - vague spoilers - )

Y Okami geek as well.)

- 'Social justice' amuses me when not used by peronists.

- Today, in the bus back home, the most annoying, infuriating thing happened. Apparently, some lady hadn't paid a full ticket, so the driver stopped the bus and made us wait until she got off. Which was infuriating but you know what's the kicker? I'm not even sure she still was on the bus. And then, since he was running late, he decided to skip a few stops including mine.
Asshole. And all for 80 cents.

- I HAVE AN USA VISA NOW. The America is Awesome commercial they kept looping annoyed me, though.
So, the Empire awaits!

- A reply for an old meme:

Arashi in gifs, songs, suns, Argentina and Yukari! )ys rained.
solesakuma: Nino with an amusing expression (Nino is amused)
1. Comment to this post with "I surrender!" and I'll assign you the basis of some TV show idea. (Science fiction show, medical drama, criminal procedure, etc...)
2. Create a cast of characters, including the actors who'd play them
3. Add in any actor photos, character bios and show synopsis that you want.
4. Post to your own journal.

Notes: so much fun doing this. The cast part was awesome, mostly because I got to play the part of WTH Casting Agency. Luis Luque as a sleek book thief, that's all I say.
And then I imagined the fandom.

In an alternate world, books are the most essential commodity. Why is this so, and who are the brave (or not so brave) folks in the book trade? (Original idea by [info]morganize)

26 episodes-long science fiction series. Argentina and Japan co-production. Has actual production values, in a rare move for both countries. Locations include Tokyo, London, Buenos Aires and Paris..

Perros de presa (Hunting dogs, I guess)

An alternate Earth. Technology advanced at a much higher rate than on our world and, therefore, e-books were adopted way earlier, dooming books to an early death. However, an unexplained disaster has created a post-apocalyptic world which is just barely recovering itself. Among the consequences, knowledge stored in electronic devices has been lost and the few paper copies left are among the most prized objects, second only to fuel.
There are two distinct book trades, with different contexts and aims.
One works for the rich and wealthy with access to technology. They're e-book archaeologists, trying to figure out such arcane stuff as 'format' and 'Oh My God, that em dash killed the work of seven years'. Most of them are scientists and like to be called Tinkers.
The other trade is more underground and is linked with the remnants of governments, the last organized religions and with the omnipresent revolutionary groups. They deal with the famed paper copies and their trade is way more dangerous. They call themselves Libreros, but most people call them Chantas. Most of them come from cultural backwaters where technology wasn't as developed.
The series chronicles the exploits of several of these as their paths cross.
Violeta is a young, promising Librera. Sumire is an agent working for an e-book trade ring. Together, they fight crime. Or, rather, unveil old conspiracies!
Arashi, ARgentinian people and pretty! )
solesakuma: Nino with an amusing expression (Nino is amused)
So, the fics I've written were:

Aber ich vergesse nicht, dass es ein Morgenrot gibt (The Edukators/Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei) for [personal profile] jae
Don't fear the German title; it's in English.

And two Treats:

one in Gokusen: Toast is overrated, for partypaprika. I'm quite happy about how it turned out, actually.

and one in Kimi wa Petto - the manga, mind you -: Unpacking for [ profile] redbrunja. It's post-canon, so there'll be spoilers.

You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.
