Swinging High (The When You Finally Make The Jump Remix) (1256 words) by Sole_Sakuma
Fandom: KAT-TUN (Band)
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Kamenashi Kazuya, Akanishi Jin
When they were kids, he and Jin would dare each other to jump off the swings. Jin always landed on his feet, Kame always ended up bruised.
IT'S AKAME. Gen, angsty Akame but hm, it felt weird to write about them. Really weird.
It's also my tenth remix. Wow.
I'm quite happy with the result. Similes may have gotten out of hand, but I have been wanting to use the line 'Summer sometimes it's like murder' for a long time now.
It's a fairly straightforward remix, specially given how I tend to go really overboard with my remixes and their metaness. The original story, by sadlonleyme is about Ryo and Kame's and what they feel about Kame and Jin's past relationship. But it's mainly about how Kame got over that relationship and how he's happy now.
There were some other drabbles in her archive I could have remixed, but I'm happy I picked that fic. It gave me the chance to expand on the fic's flashbacks, because it's the first time I've taken one part of a fic and dwelt on that. I usually make the original fic one scene of the remix, instead of making the remix one scene of the original fic.
For example, my first remix was adding parallel scenes to the original story ones. It's like a reflection, I guess. Adding new POVs to the original story.
Get Out and Play is probably a variation on the same approach - paralleling the fic, so to say. Basically, it's what's going on at the same timeframe of the original story or rather the same story with Arashi instead of TOKIO.
Then, in This is the Night Akanishi Jin dies (The Waiting Waiting Waiting Remix) - in which Akanishi doesn't die - and Flower Girls (The Sisters of Mercy Remix) - which is a Nobuta fic -, the original story is one scene of the remix. It's a different approach - this is inserting the original fic in a longer timeframe and how that one incident impacts the main character.
The Akanishi one is also me being indulgent and doing a framed story because I'm in love with that. Also - wow, I need to stop having titled sections like yesterday.
And there's the 'seven AUs in one fic' one or the 'fangirls chat about the original fic' one I did for the latest round of JE Remix, which are just really weird. (And they're also me being indulgent.)
I'm not sure of how much the fic stands on its own, though. I ended up adding dates after both my betas - ungalad and lastingdreams8 - told me they didn't get exactly what happened.
That's how I ended up with titled sections. Again.
The swings imagery comes from the original fic, as does the racing stuff. I picked it up from the flashback. I adore swings - we have one in my backyard - and they've always been a calming spot for me. And the whole thing about jumping off them was one of my favourites games as a child, so that ended being the funky remix subtitle.
The seasonal thing is also something I now notice I repeat a lot, even if I really like how it worked here.
And this is the one I got, remixing Opera, a Matsukame drabble I did for a meme once:

When the lights go out, there's only two people left on the stage.
+ I signed up for justfriends. Will you?
a johnny's gen fic exchange
+ Also - I think I'll probably sign up for parallelsfic too. It's a rare Asian sources fandom exchange. Hell yes, Parakiss fic!
( 01 ) Have a playlist ready! Don't use all your songs--try and narrow it down a little.
( 02 ) Let everyone know how many songs you're working with. Also, which characters you would be willing to write about.
( 03 ) Others tag your post, picking a character or pairing or friendship or familial relationship or whatever, and then choose a number from your list.
( 04 ) Write a drabble related to that song, using that/those character(s)!
HERE'S THE CATCH:
You only have the length of the song to write a drabble!
→ Doctor Who (New Who, mostly Ten and Eleven era)
→ Avatar: the Last Airbender
→ Arashi - including their movies together -
→ Senpais to a lesser extent
→ Disney Animated Canon (except for Pocahontas, really)
→ Josei manga - Kimi wa Petto, Nodame Cantabile, Usagi Drop, Paradise Kiss.
→ Dorama - the usual suspects (Nobuta wo Produce, Gokusen, Natsuniji)
→ Fandoms of yore - Harry Potter! And well, pretty much anything I like with the exception of Tolkien. TBH, I'll even write Mafalda.
470 songs long list.
You can ask for crazy crossovers as well. And repeat pairings and stuff. Remember I'm fluffy.
Second, I watched this one with Pocho, my little brother, making this a POCHOWATCH. This is non-spoilery - but River has surpassed the Doctor himself in his ranking of coolness. Let's bear in mind Amy was always the first one. And they say little boys don't like female characters.

I had completely forgot that I had spent the whole time casting Johnnys as Austen characters, but bubbly made me remember!
( Matsukame = P&P )
So ... Persuasion = angsty Sakumoto (OMG YOU WERE TOO YOUNG AND NOW I'M OLD :().
And Emma should be Tegoshi with a really old senpai.
S&S. Hm. No idea there.
And Northanger Abbey = dorama parody!
And Thundercats is loltastic, but my cousin used to talk about me as the one that had the Thundercats backpack (There are 20 of us and our friends are supposed to know all the names, but they tend to refuse.)
Tokimeki Memorial is way more addictive it should be. So is FFTA2 and fuck, The Sims crawled its way into my life again.
So I decided to make an entry, mostly because I kinda wanted to and I realized there's not much to say. My life got a little off track last semester and German is coming along well and so is studying for my finals. I'll try to do better this year.
Fic writing, however, continues to be hard. remix is killing me and I still have to apologize for the Big Bang debacle and... at least I got back to modding remix. Having a comod saves you sometimes.
In order to cut back a little bit on the I CAN'T DO ANYTHING vibe my mind is lulling me into, let's do a post about things I'm actually proud of!
... You know, my friends and I take jokes like 'Jin can totally open bras with his mind' way too far.
Also - reggaeton!
This joke is probably only for Spanish-speakers, but Miranda! + Gackt would be the best combo ever:
(This is the original vid, BTW
My country's taste can rival Japan's...
Come on, people, go play! It's fun and it's awesome.
First things first - YULETIDE REVEALS! I totally got my writer right and I wrote a Gunnerkrigg Court fic with Borges quotes :P. Let's make use of the Share button:

Characters: Zimmy (Gunnerkrigg Court), Gamma Czarnecki, Antimony Carver
Zimmy has always been the Minotaur lost in her own maze, but her Theseus is kind. And now, let's make some decisions. This year was terrible because of my own actions, so let's hope I'm better next year.
+ Manage my temper better.
+ Procastinate less.
+ Finals! Let's get rid of some of those! Rendir todos mis finales de segundo año, porque ya estoy en quinto y no da.
+ Sorta-graduate. That is, take the few classes I still have to take.
+ Sit for the JLTP N3!
+ Sit for the damn German test!
+ Lose 10 kg so that I'm at 55 kg again.
+ Write the One Piece/Arashi fusion fic that my Pirate AU has mutated into.
+ Write a fic a month, even if it's just a drabble!
+ Run Remix successfully again.
+ Go to Europe, either with the family or with the sister.
+ CONTINUE TO BE AWESOME!

To sum up the year: certainly more interesting than the last and I... partied a lot, apparently.
It does change my view of what I did this year, strangely.
And a fic meme, for the road... damn, I only wrote exchange fic this year:

Fandom has made me really happy, though. Besides the amazing fic I got for JE Hols, I've gotten a really nice NatsuNiji fic for Yuletide! It's about Taiga asking questions, which we all should agree it's amazing.
Niw for random bitchiness. There's an Arashi fic in Yuletide and that cracks me up. Because it's such a small fandom!
I haven't managed to read anything in either Hols or Yuletide but well, life is what it is.
ETA: any recs for either of the exchanges?
If you signed up for my fandoms, then you're a rare, brave soul. Thanks for taking the time to write a story for me. :)
Having fic in any of these fandoms is a treat in itself, but I know that my requests were very open and sometimes that's terrible and even more stifling than details.
Just checking my interests or my fics will give you an idea of what I like, probably.
But, some general likes, dislikes and squicks, in case you're like me and want more info:
I'm a fluff bunny. I like happy stories - gen, F/F, M/M, threesomes, AU, whatever - but I can enjoy angst stories as well.
- humour - particularly of the sarcastic or the absurd kind. Banter and witticisms - even smug ones! - are welcomed, as are strong narrative voices or strong stylistic choices.
- references and meta commentary. I'm a Lit major, I lurve the stuff.
- fluffiness and slice-of-life fics; you know, just a quiet, unassuming fic about the bittersweetness and the wonders of every day life.
- friendship and makeshift families. Overcoming differences and learning about new stuff. Achieving some kind of balance. You can never go wrong with gen ;)
- romance of the not-so-loud kind. While romantic clichés have a place in my heart, I'm more of a curtain fic girl.
- Gore, mpreg, vore, chan/shotacon. It's a rather short list. :)
In terms of specific fandoms:
+ Koi Cha no Osahou
Sakuragi Yaya is one of my favourite mangakas, because of the way she plays with yaoi conventions and because of her silly, slapstick humour.
Koi cha... features a dynamic I love in my main pairings - namely, one that's always confrontational and slightly violent, but in which both people are willing to fight for it and become better persons as a result. That, mixed with the Bildunsroman element, make it one of my favourite mangas.
The side characters are also great and they give the manga a little more width, if maybe not depth. I'd love to see the sisters fleshed out - and I'm not adverse to some good ol' femmeslash.
+ Mafalda - Quino
I grew up on this comic and maybe at first I missed most political jokes, but now I can appreciate it for the keen social commentary it really is. Some of it may be a little outdated - for example, Mafalda's attitude towards her mother - but a lot of it still rings true. Its insight on the Argentinian society still holds up.
Since the historic, political aspect is so pronounced, I'd love something that explores how the cast reacted to the changed that ensued after the comic ended, but if you're not that knowledge about Argentinian history or politics, future fic about their interpersonal relationships would be great!
Susanita/Manolito is my favourite ship and probably the first one - that dynamic I talked about regarding Koi Cha... probably stems from here. They're belligerent but their core values - fucked up as they are - are in sync. They're far more alike they care to admit.
Mafalda/Libertad also share their core values. Libertad is a more strident version of Mafalda and it'd be fun to see how that evolved.
Felipe/Miguelito makes no sense, but it'd be spacey fun.
Fic about their childhood games and about their loose Nakama would be nice as well.
+ Natsu no Koi wa Niji-iro ni Kagayaku
This dorama made me flail like a teenager and laugh like a kid. It's really idealistic and full of lovable characters. Even the smarmy brother is fundamentally good!
I love Shiori. She's strong, but in a gentle, calm way. She endures her pain and I like how the series followed her as she learnt to move on and embrace life.
Taiga's journey mirrors her, in a way, but while she embraces youthfulness again, he matures and learns to live with less worries.
Umi is adorable and I like her Tiny Tots in Love subplot. I was half-hoping for an epilogue in which he comes back.
Taiga's BFFs are funny and ridiculous, but hard-working and warm at the same time.
+ Usagi Drop | Bunny Drop
The main reason I enjoy this manga is because it manages to turn every day trivialities into something worth telling.
Nothing much happens during the first part of the manga and even afterwards, the plot retains its morose pace and that's a compliment!
It might not be blindingly brilliant, but it's soft and warm and it gives me warm fuzzies.
Rin is a great character - she's cute in a less conventional way and I adore her interactions with everyone. She's calm and collected, but a kid nevertheless.
Daikichi is GREAT and I love his 'Kids RAISE YOU!' plot. He's such an upstanding, good-natured guy...
The Nitaniis are also really interesting and their dynamic with Daikichi and Rin makes me happy and... sad about how things turn out. I wouldn't mind angst fic and an in-depth exploration of Kouki would be awesome...
Hm. I went a little overboard, but please keep in mind these are just suggestions! :)
Thanks and have fun writing the story!
And now, a meme:
1. Your main fandom of the year: Same as it ever was - Arashi Arashi for dreeaaam. with bonus local drama. So yeah, it's been bitchy but my other option is Doctor Who and I dare not brave those waters.
2. Your favorite Film this year: I really didn't watch that many films this year, so let's go with obvious stuff and say Toy Story 3. First time ever I've cried in the cinema.
3. Your favorite Book read this year: I Am a Cat by Natsume Soseki! It's a really fun and smart read.
4. Your favorite Album or Song this year: Hm. Nightwork by Scissor Sisters, because I loved each track and then saw them live and it was awesome
5. Your favorite TV Show this year: Doctor Who 5th season, but it's not like I've watched a lot of TV:
6. Your favorite LJ Community this year: Hm. HMMMMMMMM. Arame They Didn't XD I don't know, some of the stupid convos I've had there... XD
7. Your best new Fandom Discovery of the Year? Indie pop, actually! I've been quite into it lately and shut up, it counts
8. Your biggest Fandom Disappointment of the Year? Arashi's latest singles. I have a ballad limit and they've met it
9. Your TV Fannish Boyfriend of the year: Nino, really. Come on, hot nerd evil boyfriend from hell.
10. Your TV Fannish Girlfriend of the year: ERIKA FUCKING TODA. I love that girl and I dare you badmouth her ¬¬
11. Your biggest Squee moment of the year? 5x10 DVD. I didn't buy it - I might convince my Mom to get Scene, though - but it's so pretty and epic and happy and joyful and gaaaaaaaaaah.
12. Your most Missed Old Fandom? Eh, Slam Dunk. I've been craving good HanaRu a lot
13. Your Fandom that you haven't Tried Yet, but want to? None, I'm already busy enough with Johnny's
12. Your Biggest Anticipations of the New Year? Actually getting up to date with certain boyband.
Also: KOUHAKU AND COUNTDOWN. Because my fandom has actual New Year specials. :P I'm still not sure whether or not Arashi is attending Countdown, but if they don't I'm going to cry - only chance of Matsukame fanservice, you know? :P
For 2011... DOCTOR WHO!!! And ARASHI!!! AND LEGEND OF KORRA!!! And Tangled, which still hasn't opened here. Same as it ever was :)
But I really enjoy it, so.
I'll be back on the 15th.
+ Due to the family issues I've been dealing with lately, I'm hopeless behind my fic schedule. But I can do it! I mean, I have a plot! That means I'll be able to finish it before deadline.
+ I'm probably and unwisely signing up for Yuletide, as well.
+ There's a bona fide Matsukame comm now. World is ending.
It's amusing how Nino/Kame and Matsukame are a combo in most people's heads. I guess people find the dynamics similar...
+ I have my Deathly Hallows ticket already! My little brother is coming for the pre-screening as well.
He's such a geeky kid. The other day he made me laugh so hard - he was using my whiteboard and then he wrote 'Patológico (logical duck)' and you may not get the joke, but it's silly as hell.
He surprised me a lot, too, because he had to do this report for school and he chose the sakura. So he reads about it and then he tells me about it and dude, he starts with 'The tradition of Hanami started in the Heian era, in the year 794 DC' and he was RIGHT. And he had read it once.
He might be lazy, but he sure as hell will be able to coast through school.
+ Dorama watching!
I'm just watching Freeter and Guilty. And SPEC, if subs were coming out.
SPEC is EPIC. Cheap Mulder and Scully, basically.
Guilty has... hobo Tamaki Hiroshi. Damn, is he hot in this one.
Freeter was quite good, but I relate so much to Nino's character I feel kinda silly. :P
ALSO: EITO + BABIES = AAAAAAAAW
Day 2: What themes or patterns do you write?
Since I write silly fluff most of the time, I have no idea at all. I guess... people finding out stuff and coming to terms with it, but that's such a broad idea. I like is seeing characters thrown off their balance and then, seeing them achieve a different kind of balance.
Hm. The other pattern, I think, would be 'unlikely friends'. Or rather, people that you never thought worked well together!
Day 1: What are you responding to or inspired by when you write fanfic?✔
Day 2: What themes or patterns do you write?✔
Day 3: What character archetypes do you enjoy (or hate) writing?
Day 4: Do you feel you have a writing style?
Day 5: When do you write what kinds of fanfics?
Day 6: How do you interact with readers' responses (or lack thereof)?
Day 7: Once it's posted, how do you interact with your story?
+ Regarding this awfully ridiculous chart, have first a fixed version that salinea linked to and then a meme I stole from countlessuntruths:
GIVE ME A CHARACTER WHO IDENTIFIES AS FEMALE. Then I will write you the reasons why the lady is awesomer than awesome. It might be my squealing, it might be a drabble, it might be five reasons. The point is, I will gush about a female character, then YOU can gush about said female character and we will all be a little bit happier because 'FUCK YEAH, SHE'S AWESOME'.
+ Also: Yuletide fandom nominations are open! Yuletide is a small fandoms exchange and there are tons of dorama and manga fandoms nominated so go check it out!
I nominated Natsuniji and Mafalda, so, flist, you're my only hope!
+ ... I should stop doing exchanges.
I LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT.
- OMG TAIGA. OMG TAIGA. OMG TAIGA. He's so cute and adorkable and I want to hug him.
- As I told Jackie, I'm back to the OMG I LOVE YOU phase of every Arashi fan's relationship with Jun. 'Meh' will soon follow... until I realize he's hot again.
- And he was so pretty. AND HE COOOOOOOOOOOKED.
( Spoilers! )
